Inspired by the countless old masters of past centuries, whose works can be admired in the Old Masters Picture Gallery of the same name on the other side of the Elbe and where part of the case video was also created, we gave a contemporary and absolute master of his trade the opportunity to realize the first mural at this new meeting place. And the artist TANK delivered, as always.
GIFT is the name of the work and is inspired by the fairy tale character Snow White. It is meant to be a gift, but also a reminder. In addition to the photorealistic parts of the artwork, some of the swallows on display were created using TANK’s special HYREX technique, which was recently presented to the public.
Snow White holds the poisoned apple like Hamlet holds the skull, or like young people hold a phone — a fleeting connection to the world. The swallows fly across the wall towards the Old Town. The film offers a glimpse of the mural’s creation and the visit to the Old Masters Picture Gallery.
